Hercules Sailing now offers you the option to join us for an accelerated learning sail training programme.
This 9 day theory and practical combined Day Skipper course is ideal for those wishing to limit the amount of time they have to take off work.
It is an intensive learning period, with the format recognised by the RYA which is proving extremely popular.
Your time spent in class for the theory will cover the first steps of understanding navigation. A comprehensive introduction, including chart familiarisation, symbols & abbreviations, position fixing, estimated position and course to steer / variation and deviation. We will look at meteorology, rules of the road (collision avoidance) buoyage, tidal calculations and of course, safety elements.
Your practical sailing will follow giving you ample opportunity to put these classroom learning points into use. Passage planning will be your responsibility as well as pilotage into different harbours daily. MOB (man over board) techniques will be several times daily and night hours integral one evening where you be able to pick out the relevant lights on sail and motor vessels. Anchoring procedures, Med and alongside mooring situations and sail trim are also included in the syllabus.
Successful completion of both elements results in the award of the RYA Day Skipper theory and RYA Day Skipper practical (sail) certificates.
